Ashoka University Founder Pranav Gupta elaborates on how universities can adapt to artificial intelligence

Educational institutions will need to adapt their instructional and evaluation procedures to the wide range of artificial intelligence capabilities available. Artificial intelligence has revolutionized the way humans function and survive in our modern world. Adapting to the effects of AI on educational and research activities is also a prevalent trend at colleges and universities. Pranav Gupta Ashoka University Founder asserts, “The emergence of AI has created new opportunities for education and research, while also presenting new concerns that every higher educational institution must grapple with. Academic institutions are set to examine the ethical use of AI technologies while keeping in mind their legit structure and wider implications at micro and macro level.”

Even though there are concerns about the use of technology in academics, including biases and prejudices in data and algorithms, along with plagiarism risks, there are also benefits of artificial intelligence in education, including greater efficiency, personalized education, and creative teaching-learning strategies. The use of artificial intelligence can simplify routine administrative tasks such as data entry, recordkeeping, documentation, and storage.

It is possible to use artificial intelligence to provide students with individualized support for a variety of services, including academic counseling, financial assistance, and courses of study. Students can use AI-powered chatbots to answer common questions, receive assistance and guidance round-the-clock, and direct them to relevant resources around the clock.

“AI may be useful in text-generating tasks like creating emails and writing reports. But it has more possibilities than merely text production. It can be utilized for all kinds of general inquiries, document summaries, transcription, lesson preparation etc. It can greatly simplify routine administrative tasks and save valuable time. This can lead to effective management and make the process less taxing on the administrative workforce,” adds Pranav Gupta.

Using Artificial Intelligence, universities can identify students who are falling behind and provide them with the guidance they need. By using it, universities may even be able to personalize teaching programs and provide proper feedback for students.

Moreover, AI applications can be very useful during research because they can provide updated information about a particular topic, fill research gaps, and allow for a quick and accurate analysis. Gupta emphasizes, “It can make research more efficient and interesting. The outcome would be much better and fruitful. Generative AI platforms can help in analysis of papers during exams and assessments alongside administrative work. We need to acknowledge how efficient the field could become due to this.”

AI technology for facial recognition can also enhance the campus experience if deployed with the right precautions. As a result, educators have a better understanding of their students’ participation and can adjust their teaching strategies accordingly based on their understanding of their attendance at important gatherings or lectures. In this manner, enrollment and student identification procedures can be simplified, making them more efficient and practical for both staff members and students.

It can also regulate access to restricted locations on campus, preventing unlawful entry and boosting general security. “Technology has the ability to significantly improve the university atmosphere in addition to allowing online education, accessibility to education and promote development. As we adapt to AI technology, several institutions of higher learning are making investments in it. The university scene will undoubtedly shift and become more advanced in the coming decade,” highlights Pranav Gupta of Ashoka University.
